Savage River Lodge Elopement: Billi & Mike

It’s another Savage River Lodge wedding blog post! No, I don’t work there…yes, I think it would be awesome to work there, but this is just another one of my frequent visits. 🙂 Savage River Lodge is this super cool, tucked-back-in, romantic, retreat-like place where people come to marry. And most of the time, it’s just two people. Elopements have definitely become one of my favorite things to shoot because of this magical place…

As I sit and write this post, the snow is falling outside…again! We received a bunch of snow last week and as March continues to move forward, the snow just keeps coming. (This is the #TundraofMaryland, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.) Billi and Mike’s wedding day was similar. It took place in March on the first day of spring and we had just gotten a lot of snow. The temperatures were a bit warmer, but the snow hadn’t melted yet…thank goodness! Savage River Lodge is magical, and then when you throw snow on top of it, the magic factor goes way up! (Especially when the bride is wearing a sweater scarf. See more below. 🙂 )

I started things off with a few detail shots and prep moments, just like I do at every wedding. No matter how big or small the wedding is, these pictures are so important. Not only do they help me get into proper wedding mode for the day, but they also appropriately start the wedding day story.

After some time in their private cabin, we headed off to meet their officiant. The five of us (Billi and Mike’s dog joined us, too) stood in the middle of the gravel road between the lodge and cabins, and Billi and Mike made things official. We then snuggled in for a good round of outdoor portraits and they continued with their romantic, married getaway in our corner of Maryland.

Thanks for having me last year, Billi and Mike! You guys were true gems to work with and I hope we can reunite again someday!

I loved Billi’s bouquet! A nod to the spring season and a perfect match to their wedding day colors…

Don’t you just love Billi’s sweater scarf!? I loved it so much I bought one for myself the following week. 🙂

One of my favorites from the day…I just love how this picture includes so many of their perfect details. 🙂

Their dog Spock was the perfect companion. (Fun fact: Savage River Lodge is super dog-friendly!)

I remember hoping and waiting for this moment to happen! And you can see a little pop of Billi’s blue shoes…

Billi looked so pretty in her dress and sweater scarf! I just loved her whole look! Perfect for the location and season. 🙂

Aren’t they just the sweetest!? Plenty of great moments to capture for these two! Also, notice Billi’s hand warmer! I don’t remember exactly, but there’s a good chance I shared those with her. 🙂

Accessory change! The plaid scarf was so fitting, as well!

These were taken just outside their cabin…

A few more casual moments to end the day…

AH! Perfect end to the wedding day story… 🙂

And if I may…here’s a big shout out to Savage River Lodge! This place is a must-visit! For small weddings, for elopements, for weekend getaways, or even just for dinner. They offer wedding packages that can include accommodations, a cake, dinner, chocolate-covered strawberries, a bouquet, boutonniere, and even treats for the dog! They also have officiants on staff and if you ask me, they sort of specialize in this stuff…at least when it comes to elopements and small weddings. The food is delicious, the staff is lovely and as I mentioned above, there’s just something magical about the place. My newest bucket list item? Get snowed in at Savage River Lodge. 🙂

Scenes and thoughts from deep creek

Well hey now! I thought for sure it had been more than seven months since I blogged last! Wish I could do it more…and plan to as soon as the new JFP website comes out.

I’m not sure I’m starting anything consistent here, just sharing some random thoughts and scenes from Deep Creek on this random Wednesday…

Jessica is amazing and she made us feel so comfortable! Having her capture our wedding was like having my best friend with me for every moment! Jessica's photos are fun, whimsical, and sophisticated!

We are not a stoic couple and did not want posed (or trying-too-hard) photos! Jessica was able to capture our personalities and the elegance of the day! I can't stop looking at our photos!

"Jessica is amazing!"

The best decision I could have made for my wedding was hiring Jessica Fike as a photographer! I was in a wedding prior that she was a photographer for and seeing how organized and easy and strategic she was to work with is what convinced me! She makes you feel so comfortable and helps teach you how to pose and smile and look so natural! She keeps you on schedule throughout your day and captures so much emotion in her photos. She is worth every penny plus more!

" the best decision."
